Lesson Overview
Biblical Passage: Amos 4:1–13
Supporting Passages: 2 Kings 14:23–29, Amos 2:6–8; 3:1–15
Memory Verse: Amos 4:13
Biblical Truth: God’s people turned their backs on their covenant responsibilities with God.
Context: After examining the requirements and sacredness of the covenant, this lesson explores the consequences of abandoning God’s covenant. Under the reign of Jeroboam II, Israel enjoyed marked prosperity. As a result, the Israelites virtually “once and for all” abandoned their covenant with God. God would not delay His judgment much longer. In this passage, we see the prophet Amos predicting God’s impending judgment.
Learning Goals:
- Students will understand God’s people had completely forgotten their covenant with Him.
- Students will apply their understanding of God’s covenant by renewing their commitment to Him.
