Key Question: Why should I continue to follow God?

Biblical Truth: God blesses those who are faithful to Him, disciplines the unfaithful, and restores those who repent.

Biblical Context: This is the fourth in a series of lessons that looks at the characteristics of God’s covenant. While other nearby peoples required their worshipers to ascend to high places to approach their gods and idols, God descended into our world and “called out” to the Israelites. God was the initiator of a personal and intimate relationship between Israel and Himself. The entire book of Leviticus is about being wholly devoted to God. It describes what a relationship with Him was meant to look like in the context of pagan environments. This particular chapter, Leviticus 26, was specifically written about the blessings resulting from obedience and the discipline resulting from disobedience in an intimate relationship with God. One of the characteristics of God’s covenant with His people is that He blesses obedience, punishes disobedience, and restores those who repent.
